What is an SSL Certificate?
An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificate allows you to encrypt transactions to your web site from viewers using a web browser. Typically you would require an SSL Certificate if your web site is an online store which collects sensitive data from customers, such as names, dates of birth, credit card numbers and passwords, or any other web site function that collects and transacts similar sensitive data.
There are several different types of SSL Certificates that provide different levels of encryption and authentication.
Most SSL Certificates are compatible with 99% of web browsers and mobile devices, allowing you to secure almost every connection to your web site.
An SSL Certificate will require a dedicated or static IP address from your web hosting provider. If you host your web site with VentraIP, can you automatically install your SSL Certificate and be assigned a dedicated IP address using the automated SSL installation system inside VIPControl.
